A Note About Data Availability
We make every effort to publish employment projections for as many industries and occupations as possible while following stringent guidelines to ensure the reliability of the estimates and the confidentiality of data provided voluntarily by employers. If data is not available for a particular industry or occupation of interest, it is because it did not meet those standards.
Employment projections data for industries with base-year employment less than 200 is confidential and not published.
Employment projections data for occupations with base-year employment less than 30 for long-term (10 years) projections is confidential and not published. In the short-term (two years) occupational employment projections, data for occupations with base-year employment less than 50 is confidential and not published.
A Note About Data Time Periods
Long-term statewide employment projections by industry and occupation are completed every other year and published on the even-numbered year. Sub-state employment projections are also completed every other year, and published on the odd-numbered years. For example, the long-term 2020-2030 projections for statewide South Dakota were published in July 2022. The long-term 2020-2030 projections for the sub-state areas (the Metropolitan Statistical Areas and the balance of state area) will be published in 2023. Only the most recent set of projections data is available for any area at any given time; data for prior periods is not available.
