Testimonials
Heather Nelson | Workforce Services Manager
"After relocating from Minnesota, I wanted to continue my career in employment and economic development. I kept my eyes open for opportunities with the Department of Labor and Regulation. One year later in 2015, I was hired as a Labor Program Specialist working out of the Watertown office. I was able to grow within the department, and in 2022, I moved into a leadership role. I feel fortunate to have found a wonderful community to live and employer to continue my career."
Haelly Pease | Compliance Agent
"I started working for the Division of Insurance shortly after graduating from college in November 2020. Since that time, I have been given multiple promotion opportunities to the position I’m currently in as a Compliance Agent. Since I started working for the Division, my knowledge of the insurance industry has grown significantly. But more than the work experience, I feel a sense of home and comradery among my coworkers and the management team. Everyone within the Division has become my work family. They have shown me support in my career and personal growth and provided me with the opportunity to expand my knowledge of the industry that would not be offered anywhere else. I am very thankful for the opportunities the Division has provided me and my family."
Tara Bartekoske | Business Resource Manager
"Being born and raised in South Dakota, I always had a dream to move away – which led me to nanny in New York. While I LOVED this experience and would not trade it for anything, it taught me a valuable lesson. There is NO place like home, and no place like South Dakota. I started with DLR four years ago and love the work I do, because I get to be a part of lasting change. The department offers many opportunities for growth, and I feel like being with DLR has helped me to grow both personally and professionally. DLR has worked really hard on developing organizational values that also align with my personal values. If you want to grow, be the best version of yourself, and make an IMPACT, then DLR is a great place for you!"
Felicia Alspach | Workforce Data Manager
"I decided to apply to the Department after I worked with a case manager in one of our Job Service offices. The office had such a friendly atmosphere and was caring and helpful. And I couldn’t help but feel like this was where I wanted to be. I can now say that I’ve served in various roles for the Department for over eight years, from serving as a front-line case manager to working with policy and data. Thanks to the Department and its leadership, I’ve been blessed with several opportunities to continue my education, advance my career, and develop professionally. The best thing about my job is at the end of the day; I know my work positively impacted someone in South Dakota."
