"I have been working with the Division of Banking in the Sioux Falls office since graduation three years ago. I was excited by the prospect of living and working in Sioux Falls. The complexity in the banking industry fascinates me. Each examination brings new questions to answer, but training and guidance from experienced mentors ensure I am well-equipped to meet any challenge. I also enjoy the opportunity to explore the local economies of various towns across the state."”"
— Brady Schlechter, Financial Institution Examiner
“I have been working for the DLR Spearfish office as an Employment Specialist since September 2014. The culture is client-centered and client-focused. The people who work for this Department are dedicated to helping the public and their families. DLR employees go the extra mile to help individuals on their job search journey and often times coordinate resources with other agencies. We help people when they are in need of employment, but are unsure where to start. I am proud to be a part of an organization whose focus is to serve the people in our local communities. My biggest reward of working here is the joy I share with someone whom I’ve helped on their path to employment.”
— Jamie Boettcher, Employment Specialist
“I started with the Department right out of college. To be honest, I really didn’t know much about state government and had only been to Pierre once before (on a sixth grade field trip). Twelve years later, I’m still here and can’t picture myself working elsewhere. I’ve been fortunate to have amazing mentors, professional development opportunities and room for advancement. My husband and I also love all the camping, boating, hunting and outdoor recreational activities Pierre has to offer.”
— Dawn Dovre, Director of Policy & Public Affairs
“After growing up in south central South Dakota, I went to college and lived in Minnesota for 12 years. While I loved Minnesota, I looked forward to living closer to family and getting back to my South Dakota roots. I started with DLR shortly after moving to Pierre and over five years later, am still here. The work I do is challenging, yet rewarding. The department offers opportunities for continued education and career advancement, which has been of great value to me. Pierre is a nice sized community with a variety of recreational activities and a great education system for my young family.”
— Kendra Ringstmeyer, Labor Program Specialist
“I took a job with DLR and moved to Pierre not knowing if the Division of Insurance was right for me. In a few short years, I have prosecuted dozens of actions, hearings, and depositions; facilitated mergers; liquidated an insurance company; lobbied in the legislature; and associated with some of the prominent industry members statewide and nationally – all with the support of my peers in the Department. This job has offered experiences, professional associations, and personal opportunities I couldn’t find anywhere else. Along the way my wife and I found our family, rewarding careers in public service, and a big lake for our sailboat. For me, that’s the whole package.”
— Frank Marnell, Senior Legal Counsel
