South Dakota Electrical Commission

Effective July 1, 2025, any permits received in the Electrical Commission office will be assessed initial inspection fees based on the following inspection fee increases:

  • Minimum Inspection Fee (New Amount: $150.00)
    • The minimum inspection fee is in addition to the permit fee. NOTE: Any reinspection fees accrued on or after July 1, 2025, will be charged at the new rate.
  • Permit Fee (New Amount: $20.00)
  • Administrative Fees (New Amount: $250.00) NOTE: Any administrative fees accrued on or after July 1, 2025, will be charged at the new rates.
  • Apartment Fee (New Amount: $150.00 per unit)
    • Apartment fee includes one rough-in inspection per four units and one final inspection for all units covered by the permit.
  • Mobile Home Services and Feeders (New Amount: $100 for the first service or feeder, $45 for each additional service or feeder)
  • RV Parks (New Amount: $25.00 for each RV park pedestal)
  • Modular Homes and Structures (New Amount: $210.00 per day)
  • All other inspection fees (New amounts increased by 30%)

In addition to the increases listed above, the special fee categories for swimming pools, carnivals, field irrigation systems, and outdoor signs and area lighting have been removed. These installations will now be charged under service and circuits. Updated information will be provided below as it becomes available.

Fees for Inspections

Wiring Permits are $15 each or a book of 20 for $300

The Commission conducts the following allotted number of inspections per the calculated fee per the table below. Inspections in addition to the allotted inspections will be assessed at $100 per hour for the first hour and $25/15 minutes after.

Minimum fee for requested electrical inspections.

A minimum inspection fee of one hundred dollars is imposed if any fee in the table below is equal to less than $100.

The policy is in effect as of Nov. 12, 2024, for all outstanding permits.

The table includes a link to the Administrative Rule of South Dakota (ARSD) pertinent to each type of installation.
