Fees for Inspections

Wiring Permits are $15 each or a book of 20 for $300

The Commission conducts the following allotted number of inspections per the calculated fee per the table below. Inspections in addition to the allotted inspection per fee will be assessed at $75 per inspection per each inspection man-hour or fraction thereof. (20:44:20:10. Minimum fee for requested electrical inspections. A minimum inspection fee of $75 for each inspection man-hour or fraction thereof is charged for electrical inspections.) The policy is in effect as of May 01, 2018, for all outstanding permits.

The table includes a link to the Administrative Rule of South Dakota (ARSD) pertinent to each type of installation.

All allotted inspections are for 1 hour or a fraction thereof.

*Fees calculated in this section may not exceed the calculated fee for a new installation of the same type in §§ 20:44:20:01 and 20:44:20:02.

*Please note each inspection is limited to one hour. Inspections over one hour will utilize an additional allotted inspection per hour or fraction thereof or be charged $75 per hour or fraction thereof.

Installers will not receive credit for unused allotted inspections.

**Multi-unit Fee Clarification:

A. House panel without fire separation (single permit):
  Fee is calculated:
  a. Service new – According to amps
    i. Feeder to Apt panel – No fee
    ii. Each unit - $50
    iii. Feeder to house panel – Fee according to size
    iv. House panel circuits – Fee according to circuits
  b. Service replacement – According to amps
    i. New Feeder to Apt panel – No fee
    ii. Units updated - $50
    iii. New feeder to house panel – Fee according to size
    iv. New house panel – Fee according to circuits
B. No house panel without fire separation (single permit):
  Fee is calculated
  a. Service new – Service size plus circuits
  b. Service replacement – Service size plus new circuits
C. Larger house or condo type structures - No house panel with fire separation (permit for each unit – example would be a townhouse):
  Fee is calculated at $160 per unit

Note: For fee purposes an apartment is required to have a house panel:
House panel defined: A panel servicing general areas or shared areas typically paid for by landlord or shared amongst tenants. Examples include yet are not limited to: hallway luminaires, outside and parking lot luminaires, hallway security systems, shared area heating and cooling, lobbies, rec areas and laundry.
