Home Inspection Renewal Information
- A home inspector license/registration must be renewed every two years. Renewal applications are available on the Applications page.
- Renewal notices are mailed to home inspectors whose licenses will soon be expiring.
- The renewal application and fee of $100.00 must be received by the South Dakota Real Estate Commission by 5:00 p.m. on November 30 of the year the license/registration expires.
- To remain on active status, the licensed/registered home inspector must complete 24 hours of approved continuing education by December 31 of the year the license/registration expires. If the education is not completed by the expiration of the license/registration, the home inspector must return the license/registration to the South Dakota Real Estate Commission and be placed on inactive status until the educational requirements are met.
Renewals received by the Commission after November 30 will be subject to the following late fees in addition to the renewal fee:
December — $20
January — $40
February — $60
March — $80
April — $100
May — $120
June — $140
No license/registration can be reinstated after June 30 of the year the license/registration expires.
