Forms and Information for Course Providers
For a course to be considered for pre-licensing, postlicensing or continuing education approval, education providers must submit an application for course approval for each course. Instructors must also be approved. The course application and fee must be submitted at least 20 days in advance of the course date. Applications/fees received less than 20 days prior to the course will not be accepted or approved.

Course Application Fees
For classroom courses, providers may submit a flat fee of $75 per course for a three-year approval or a one-time approval fee of $15 per hour of continuing education credit. There is no fee or expiration for instructor approval. For distance learning (Internet) courses, the application fee is $150 per course for a three-year approval. If a course is ARELLO-certified, the application fee is $50.
Reporting
It is the responsibility of the course provider, not the licensee, to report completion of continuing education to the SDREC office. Course providers must report completion information within 10 days.
Compliance
- No continuing education credit will be given to a licensee who is absent for more than ten percent of a course. No partial credit will be granted. No exceptions!
- Courses must be at least three hours in length.
- No more than eight hours of continuing education may be taken in one day.
- Distance learning and independent study courses must contain a final exam. Licensees must achieve a minimum score of 80 percent to receive credit for the course.
