Premium Tax Information
Premium Tax and Captive Supervision Fee Information
The premium tax payment process is now available electronically through OPTins. If you are already registered to use OPTins to file your premium tax filings to other states, you are already set up within OPTins to pay South Dakota.
Filing and Payment Information
To pay electronically: OPTins.org
Required quarterly prepayments: Insurance companies licensed in South Dakota whose premium tax for the prior year was greater than $5,000 are required to make quarterly payments. Payments must be received on or before April 30, July 31, October 31, and January 31. Late payments result in a penalty of 1.5% for each month or part thereof.
Quarterly payment calculations: On the tax return, subtract line 69 from line 61, then divide the calculation by four. This is the amount you need to submit quarterly.
