How to Pay the Division of Insurance
Premium tax or fee payments payable to the South Dakota Division of Insurance are processed through OPTins.
Paying through OPTins
- Log in to OPTins and select Create New Filing.
- Select these options in the filing wizard:
- Year - Select the applicable your for your filing/invoice
- State - Select "South Dakota"
- Type of Filing - Select "Premium Tax" or "Fees", as applicable
- Filing Entity - Select the entity
- Entity Type:
- For fees, select "All"
- For premium taxes, select the applicable entity type
- Filing Period Type:
- For fees, select "Invoice"
- For premium taxes, select "Quarterly"* or "Annual"
*For a quarterly filing, identify the appropriate quarter - Select Next to proceed to the State Instructions and Forms page.
- Download either quarterly/annual premium tax voucher or fee payment voucher associated with the selection in "Type of Filing" (see step 2 above) by selecting the link under State Provided Forms. This will be the blank template to be completed for the payment filing.
- Fill out the downloaded voucher (Excel file) by providing specific fee or premium tax information.
- Upload the completed voucher by selecting Upload My Form.
- Select Next to proceed to the payment screen.
- Confirm the filing reflects the correct fee amounts in the associated fee type. Once confirmed, select Submit.
