Reemployment Assistance Tax
Employer News & Updates
Tax Rate Reduction
Unemployment Insurance (UI) tax rates were reduced effective Jan. 1, 2018. Legislation in 2017 revised the UI tax rates to provide a permanent tax break to South Dakota employers. The bill also created an alternate tax table if the Trust Fund balance has enough funds to pay 19 months of benefits. Tax rate notices were mailed to employers the end of October.
Increased Penalties
Effective July 1, 2016, penalties for failure to pay contributions and submitting late employer quarterly contribution, investment fee and wage reports increased from $5 to $25 per month (or fraction of a month) for each delinquent contribution or report, up to a total possible penalty of $300.
Access to Employer Online Services
The South Dakota Department of Labor and Regulation launched a new online menu for employers. At the new menu, employers will access the business registration site, the quarterly wage reporting site, New Hire reporting, and the Secure Information Data Exchange System (SIDES) E-Response.
The menu also includes a new application for employers to identify and authenticate users who are allowed to conduct business for the employer online and the functions they can perform. The new menu option "Identification and Authentication" provides for enhanced security for employer business information.
