All federal unemployment pandemic programs have ended in South Dakota. The last claim week to receive federal unemployment benefits if eligible was for the claim week ending June. 26. Any weekly requests for payment under review for weeks through the claim week ending June 26, 2021, will be made when and if an individual is found eligible.
Specific claim issues may continue to be directed to the Customer Service Center at 605.626.2452 or DLRRADivision@state.sd.us.
DLR will continue to pay regular State claims.

Reemployment Assistance (Unemployment Insurance)

Refusal to Work or Return to Work. Guidance on how to report individuals who refuse to interview or to accept a suitable job offer, do not show up for work, etc., or those who refuse to return after a layoff/furlough to the RA Division.
Employer Bulk Claims. We are now accepting bulk unemployment claims from any employer laying off over 50 workers. The employer can file on behalf of the individuals. This means individuals do not file an initial claim, but must complete the weekly request for payment.

South Dakota Housing Development Authority (SDHDA)
SDHDA SD CARES Housing Assistance Program. Last fall, the South Dakota Housing Development Authority launched the SD CARES Housing Assistance program which provides financial assistance for households who have been financially impacted due to COVID-19. Financial assistance can be provided for rent, utilities and mortgage payments (for homeowners).
Households must income qualify for assistance, document how they were financially impacted due to COVID and be at risk of losing their housing due to outstanding rent, mortgages and/or utility payments. Financial impact can be due to loss of hours, loss of job or increase in household expenses due to COVID.
Program information and access to the application can be found on SD CARES Housing Assistance Program (SDHDA) or 211 Community Resources (Helpline Center) websites.
U.S. Department of Labor
Coronavirus Resources. The U.S. Department of Labor has resources to help workers and employers prepare for the COVID-19.
Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)
COVID-19 website. This provides infection prevention information specifically for workers and employers. OSHA is actively reviewing and responding to any complaints regarding workplace protection from novel coronavirus, as well as conducting outreach activities.
Guidance on Preparing Workplaces for COVID-19. The guidance, developed in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, is designed to help companies respond in the event of coronavirus in the workplace.
Wage and Hour Division
COVID-19 or Other Public Health Emergencies website. This provides information on common issues employers and employees face when responding to COVID-19, including effects on wages and hours worked under the Fair Labor Standards Act and job-protected leave under the Family and Medical Leave Act. Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA)
The requirement that employers provide paid sick leave and expanded family and medical leave under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA) expired on Dec. 31, 2020. Fraud Alerts from the U.S. Department of Labor Office of Inspector General
Fraudulent Websites/Links and Phishing Alert (issued March 4, 2021). Be on the lookout for websites that mimic government unemployment insurance websites, including state workforce agency sites as well as texts claiming to be from state workforce agency unemployment insurance divisions. Criminals create these websites and scam texts to trick people into disclosing personally identifiable and sensitive information.
