Appraiser Certification Program
Certification
South Dakota Codified Law (SDCL) Chapter 36-21B-1 mandates, "Any person who performs a real estate appraisal or advertises or holds himself or herself out to the general public as a real estate appraiser in South Dakota shall be certified, licensed, or registered by the Department of Labor and Regulation unless exempt under another provision of this chapter or another provision of statute."
It is very important for you to become familiar with the Administrative Rules of South Dakota (ARSD) 20:14. (You may request a printed copy from the South Dakota Appraiser Certification Program using the Contact Us information on our home page.)
ARSD 20:14:06:01 requires an appraisal be prepared in accordance with the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP). You should obtain a copy of the USPAP, available from:
