Labor Force (including Unemployment Rates)

It looks much different than what you were used to, but has even greater functionality--such as the ability to view or export graphs and maps of the data you select. Follow the tips below to find the data you have used this website to find in the past. If you need assistance with this new system, please contact us; we will be happy to help.

Get labor force data from the virtual LMI data system using the links on this Web page.

Alternately, you may follow our instructions to access labor force data from the opening screen of the LMI virtual LMI data system.

Please note, at any point while using the virtual labor market data system, to clear all prior selections, click on the "Labor Market Analysis" link in the upper left-hand corner of the screen.

Seasonally Adjusted Data

Statewide - Under Search Options, If "South Dakota" is not already selected, click on the area currently displayed to change it. Then from the drop-down menu, choose "State." Under Search Options, if "Seasonally Adjusted" is not already selected, click on the "Not Seasonally Adjusted" link to change it. Then from the drop-down menu, choose "Seasonally Adjusted." Also change the Time Period as needed.

United States - Under Search Options, click on the "South Dakota" link as needed to change the area type, then from the drop-down menu for Area Type, choose United States. Also choose seasonally adjusted. Also change the Time Period as needed.

Not Seasonally Adjusted Data - Under Search Options, choose the appropriate option as indicated below. If "Not Seasonally Adjusted" is not already selected, also click on that link and from the drop-down, menu, choose "Not Seasonally Adjusted."

Statewide - If "South Dakota" is not already selected, click on the area currently displayed to change it, and from the drop-down menu, choose "State."

County - Click on the area currently displayed to change it as needed, then from the menu, choose "County." Then choose county(ies) of interest, holding down the Control key as you select multiple choices. Or click on the "Select All" option below the drop-down list to select all the counties.

City - Click on the area currently displayed to change the area type as needed, then from the drop-down menu, choose City. Then choose the city(ies) of interest, holding down the Control key as you select multiple cities. Or click on the "Select All" option below the drop-down list to select all cities.

Rapid City Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) - Click on the area currently displayed to change it as needed, then from the Area Type drop-down menu, choose Metropolitan Statistical Area (2013). Then choose the Rapid City MSA. Or click on the "Select All" option below the drop-down list to select both MSAs.

Sioux Falls MSA - Click on the area currently displayed to change it as needed, then from the Area Type drop-down menu, choose Metropolitan Statistical Area (2013). Then choose the Sioux Falls MSA. Or click on the "Select All" option below the drop-down list to select both MSAs.

Micropolitan Statistical Area (MiSA) - Click on the area currently displayed to change it as needed, then from the Area Type drop-down menu, choose Metropolitan Statistical Area (2013). Then choose the MiSA(s) of interest, holding down the Control key as needed to select mutliple areas.

Combined Statistical Area - Click on the area currently displayed to change it as needed, then from the Area Type drop-down menu, choose Combined Statistical Area (2013) to choose South Dakota's only Combined Statistical Area of Rapid City-Spearfish.

United States - Click on the area currently displayed to change it as needed, then from the Area Type drop-down menu, choose US.

All Areas - Click on the area currently displayed to change it as needed, then directly below the Area Type drop-down menu, click on the Select All Areas option.
