Employers Hiring Veterans

HIRE Vets Medallion Program

The HIRE Vets Medallion Program will recognize job creators for their efforts to recruit, employ, and retain our nation’s veterans. The HIRE Vets Medallion is the only veterans hiring award at the federal level. Its criteria allows for the highest level of recognition for employers who are committed to veteran careers, including recruiting, employing and retention. These employers set an example for other employers of the importance of prioritizing and encouraging successful veteran hiring and retention. The award signals to veterans that an employer is committed to and supports our nation’s heroes.

Employer-applicants meeting criteria established in the rule will receive a “HIRE Vets Medallion Award.” As described in the Honoring Investments in Recruiting and Employing American Military Veterans (HIRE Vets) Act of 2017, there are different awards for large employers (500-plus employees), medium employers (51-499 employees), and small employers (50 or fewer employees). Additionally, there are two award tiers: Gold and Platinum. For each award, the employer must satisfy a set of criteria. Verification of these criteria includes a self-attestation by the applicant and a check for violations of veteran-related DOL labor laws by the U.S. Department of Labor. For more program information, including criteria and sample forms, see the program's Resources page.

President Donald J. Trump signed the HIRE Vets Act into law in May 2017. The HIRE Vets Medallion Program is administered by the Department of Labor’s Veterans’ Employment and Training Service (VETS).
