Department of Labor and Regulation

Title - General Educational Development (GED)

About the GED® Program

Almost every kind of job requires a high school diploma. It is a minimum requirement for admission to all post-secondary educational and vocational programs within South Dakota. Without a high school diploma, it is almost impossible to advance in your job or career.

The South Dakota Department of Labor and Regulation recognizes the importance of this educational milestone and provides the General Educational Development (GED®) program to help you if you have not completed a regular high school program leading to a diploma.

The GED® credential is recognized across the nation as an equivalent to a high school diploma. The GED® test consists of five tests: Math, Science, Social Studies, Writing and Reading. The GED® test is available in English, Spanish, large-print, audiocassette, Braille and computer-based versions. Accommodations can be made available to examinees with disabilities.
