Layoff Assistance

If you are facing a layoff because the company you work for is downsizing, going out of business or moving out of the state or the country, the Department of Labor and Regulation is here to help. You don’t have to search for your new job alone. We have many services available to you at no cost.

The first step is easy. Just find your local South Dakota Department of Labor and Regulation office and check out the services our trained professionals can offer. Some of these are:

• Career planning

Our goals are to get you back to work as soon as possible and minimize the disruption of your life the layoff will cause. The sooner you contact us, the sooner you’ll be on your way to a suitable new job.

An additional resource you may find helpful is the my Skills my Future website. This tool from the U.S. Department of Labor helps laid-off workers and other career changers find new occupations to explore, based on transferable skills
gained in past jobs.

Also, while you do your job search, don’t forget to explore the possibility of benefits from the Unemployment Insurance program.
