What's New (last updated January 18, 2012)
State Board Examinations
Beginning in 2012, the Commission will be administering State Board Examinations in Rapid City, Sioux Falls and Watertown in addition to Pierre. Prior to 2012 all State Board Examinations were administered at the Commission office in Pierre. The schedule of exam dates is included on the Calendar on this website.
2012 Renewals Have Started
The 2012 renewals started December 1, 2011. Individual license renewals are due on or before your birth date and salon/booth renewals are due on or before the opening (anniversary) date. However, you may still renew your licenses in January each year if you choose to do so.
Salon & Booth Renter Information
Salon and booth licenses are not transferrable from one location to another. If you move your salon or booth, you must apply for a new license permit. The same is true is any of the owners of a salon change -- a new salon license must be applied for listing the new owner(s). Applications for salons and booths should be submitted to the Cosmetology Commission with the $60 license permit fee two weeks prior to your opening date.
Beginning in 2012 the Commission will be enforcing the $50 re-inspection fee if you fail your salon or booth inspection. Salon owners should be aware that the salon will fail its inspection if licenses in the salon are expired -- even expired licenses of booth renters.
2012 Newsletter Posted
The 2012 Newsletter has now been posted at this site. It is mailed out with each renewed license. We strongly encourage licensees to read the newsletter.
Protection and Safety Review Course
Our protection and safety review course has now been posted on our webpage. See General Information-Protection and Safety Review Course. It is a PowerPoint presentation, but set up as an Adobe.pdf file so anyone can watch it. You will need to use the right arrow key to scoll through the course. This is a very important review of the protection and safety procedures that should be used to protect your client's health and your health. We strongly recommend reviewing this course so you know you are doing all you can to protect yourself and your client.
