How to Become a Registered or Licensed Home Inspector in South Dakota
Registered Home Inspector
To become a registered home inspector in South Dakota an applicant must:
- Be of good moral character.
- Have successfully completed high school or high school equivalency.
- Have successfully completed an approved home inspector course of not less than 40 hours.
- Have successfully completed an examination administered by Applied Measurement Professionals, Inc. (AMP). Exam information may be found at www.goamp.com or by calling 913.895.4600.
- Submit an application and application fee to the South Dakota Real Estate Commission.
- Receive approval of the application from the South Dakota Real Estate Commission.
Licensed Home Inspector
To become a licensed home inspector in South Dakota an applicant must meet the following requirements:
- Be of good moral character.
- Have successfully completed high school or high school equivalency.
- Have successfully completed an approved home inspector course of not less than 40 hours.
- Been employed as a registered home inspector for no less than one year and performed at least 100 home inspections for compensation.
- Have successfully completed an examination administered by AMP. (Applied Measurement Professionals, Inc.). Exam information may be found at www.goamp.com or by calling 913.895.4600.
- Submit an application, experience log and application fee to the South Dakota Real Estate Commission.
- Receive approval of the application from the South Dakota Real Estate Commission.
Note: Once licensed, there is no distinction between the duties and responsibilities of a licensed home inspector and those of a registered home inspector.
