Workforce Knowledge Series: AI Tools for Employers

Join us for our January Workforce Knowledge Session: How AI is Enhancing All Aspects of Employment from Hire to Retire.

This session introduces employers to practical, easy-to-implement AI tools that can streamline operations, support staff, and strengthen business performance. The session will cover:

  • Real-world uses of AI;
  • How AI affects the overall workforce;
  • The benefits and challenges of AI for people with disabilities;
  • The risks of using AI; and
  • A simple roadmap to help businesses adopt AI responsibly and effectively.

When:  Thursday, Jan. 8, 11:30 a.m.CST/10:30 MST (45-minute session)
Where:  Microsoft Teams — registration is required through the event page on DLR’s Event Calendar on SD.gov.

Minimum Wage Increase

State Minimum Wage Increases Jan. 1 

Reminder to employers: the state hourly minimum wage increases Jan. 1, 2026.

  • Non-Tipped Employees: The hourly minimum wage increases to $11.85/hour.
  • Tipped Employees: The hourly minimum wage increases to $5.925/hour, half the minimum wage for non-tipped employees. Wages and tips combined must equal at least the minimum wage.

In accordance with SDCL 60-11-3.2, a law enacted by the state legislature (effective Jan. 1, 2016), the state's minimum wage is adjusted annually based on cost of living increases measured by the U.S. Department of Labor's Consumer Price Index.

These increases apply to all South Dakota employers, with some limited exceptions. For more information, visit our Minimum Wage homepage.
