Unemployment Insurance Undergoes Name Change

Reemployment Assistance Division

Effective July 1, South Dakota’s Unemployment Insurance (UI) program will be renamed Reemployment Assistance (RA). This is a result of HB 1035 which passed during the 2019 legislative session.

The bill makes no changes to the administration of this long-standing program, such as collection of taxes or payment of benefits.

The main URL will change to dlr.sd.gov/ra on Friday, June 28.

NLRA Rights Poster

Updates have been made to the Notice of Employee Rights Under Federal Labor Laws poster that federal contractors are required to post. This is a separate poster from the "6-in-1" poster.

U.S. DOL updated the poster to reflect a new telephone number for the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), the agency responsible for enforcing the NLRA, as well as contact information for individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing. No other changes or updates were made at this time.

State and federal posting requirements are avialable on the DLR website at dlr.sd.gov/employment_

South Dakota Employer Survey | Career and Technical Education

The Department of Education (DOE) is collecting feedback to revise its approach to middle and high school and post-secondary career and technical education. One component of that process is to ensure programs are in alignment with the needs of business/industry in the state, and middle and high school programs are viable first steps through which students may complete programs of study at the post-secondary level in the state's technical institutes, universities, or other training institutions.

DOE needs your help to make certain we attain the best possible results through its work. Please take a few minutes to answer the following questions at the link here.  The survey will remain live through July 2. Your responses will remain anonymous and DOE will only contact you if you ask them to do so.  If you have questions, please contact Laura Scheibe at Laura.Scheibe@state.sd.us or 605.773.3423.
