![]() Start Today SD Offers Mentorship Toolkit January is National Mentoring Month. Mentoring, an important part of career development, ensures new generations enter the workforce feeling prepared and confident. Mentorships are just as important for mentors, helping them discover new skills and points of view. According to Forbes, retention rates are significantly higher for mentees (72%) and mentors (69%) than for those who did not participate in a mentoring program (49%). Workplace mentoring programs improve inclusion for mentees and lead to improved career outcomes, engagement, and retention. Mentors also see benefits with better engagement and commitment to the organization, greater career success, and improved workplace fulfillment. Start Today SD created a Workplace Mentor Toolkit that includes online training, a resource hub and other tools needed to create your own mentoring program. It includes four mentorship modules to help develop and foster successful mentorships. You’ll find interactive lessons for mentors, mentees, businesses looking to establish mentoring programs, and in-person facilitators who lead group trainings. Modules begin with a short video, then lead participants through valuable content, quiz questions and exercises to help build deeper mentoring relationships. Each lesson takes approximately 30-40 minutes to complete. At the end you’ll receive a certificate for completing each course. Browse lessons, and when you’re ready, get started on cultivating a strong mentoring culture.

![]() Labor Law Compliance Posters Free from DLR The Department of Labor and Regulation (DLR) has labor law compliance posters available at no charge from any job service office. This poster includes six federal posting requirements. Various federal agencies, such as the U.S. Department of Labor, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) require workplace postings. “Businesses should watch out for poster scams from companies selling various federal agency postings,” said state Labor and Regulation Secretary Marcia Hultman. “Such companies often use scare tactics about potential fines and penalties.” The solicitations have an official-looking seal or logos to create the impression the ad is an official communication from a government entity. Victims of these poster scams should contact the Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Division at 800-300-1986 or email consumerhelp@state.sd.us with information or to file a complaint. There may be additional requirements for federal contractors. For more information, contact the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs at 800.397.6251 or dol.gov/ofccp. In addition, the State of South Dakota has two posting requirements: an unemployment "Notice to Employees" and a safety on the job posting required by workers' compensation law. These can also be found on DLR’s Posting Requirements webpage
