![]() Employers' Roles in SD UpSkill SD UpSkill, a partnership between the Board of Technical Education and the South Dakota Department of Labor and Regulation, is bringing opportunities to South Dakota residents who have been dislocated due to COVID-19 and are eligible for reemployment assistance. UpSkill offers full tuition assistance for 24 certificate programs offered by South Dakota’s four technical colleges. The business community is vital in the success of this program. The first step is helping to spread the word. The mid-August application deadlines at the technical colleges are rapidly approaching. If you know of workers who have been laid off or a business that has laid off workers due to COVID-19, please share the UpSkill website with them. In the coming months, DLR will reach out to community business leaders in the participants’ fields of study to provide mock interviews from industry professionals. Not only can participants practice interview skills in settings relevant to their chosen career paths, but employers can connect with potential future employees. Visit www.sdupskill.com for more information about the credentials and contact information for the technical colleges. If you have specific questions about the UpSkill program or want to see other ways businesses can partner with DLR job services offices, please contact upskill@state.sd.us.

Reporting Employee Recall Dates DLR’s waiver of the work search requirement for those collecting unemployment benefits ended Aug. 1. Most claimants must do two work search activities each week starting Aug. 2. However, employees laid off on a temporary basis with a recall date are exempt from having to search for work. Employers must provide the recall date to the Reemployment Assistance Division in order for their furloughed employees to be exempt from work search requirements. If you have not done so, or need to update recall dates, you can fill out the Employee Recall Date form or call Customer Service at 605.626.2452. ![]()
