Department of Labor and Regulation

Title - General Educational Development (GED)

Testing - Preparation

All GED® examinees must take and pass the Official Practice Tests (OPT) at either an Adult Education program in your area, a GED® Testing Center, or an In-school High School GED® Prep class with a score of 500 on each subtest. Then you may apply to take the GED® test battery. Proof of the OPT scores must be presented to the testing center.

You can improve your study skills, review basic information on various subjects and take courses at any of the adult education programs or career learning centers in South Dakota. These learning opportunities are available at no cost to you.

The length of time you spend in preparation will be up to you. We suggest you visit an adult education program or career learning center near you to discuss your education goals and needs. The staff can help you form a plan and give you information to help make your goals realistic, achievable and practical.
