Unemployment Insurance Benefits
Unemployment insurance benefits provide temporary financial assistance to eligible unemployed workers who lost their job through no fault of their own and are not based on financial need. Unemployment insurance benefits are funded through a dedicated tax that is paid by your former employer(s). As an employee, you do not pay any portion of the benefit costs or taxes. Your eligibility for benefits is based on the wages you have earned. In order to qualify for benefits, you must be able and available to accept full-time work. While you are receiving unemployment benefits, it is your responsibility to return to the workforce as quickly as you can.
You can file a claim online or by telephone. Filing online is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. To file by telephone, contact the Claims Call Center at 605.626.3179, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:20 p.m. (CST). Speech and hearing impaired applicants can call 800.877.1113. File as soon as you become unemployed or if your work hours have been reduced. Waiting to file may cause you to lose some benefits.

Sign Up for Electronic Correspondence
You can now receive your unemployment insurance correspondence electronically when you agree to receive it through the Electronic Correspondence Center. Once you log into your unemployment insurance account, select the Electronic Correspondence option to sign up.
