SD High School Senior Essay Contest

The Division of Securities, through a grant from the Investor Protection Trust, sponsors an annual essay contest for high school seniors in South Dakota. The purpose of the essay contest is to encourage young adults to learn more about investor education and protection. Participants have the opportunity to win up to $6,000 in cash.

In early October every South Dakota high school receives a poster containing contest information and rules, an entry form and a letter to the principal with instructions for the contest. A letter about the contest is also sent to all high school counselors at the same time. Information about each annual contest is also provided to the media statewide. High school principals receive a reminder letter In mid-November. Essays are due in mid-January each year (with a specific date set each year), and winners are announced in April.
