Short-term Major Medical Policy
When purchasing a short-term major medical policy you are taking a significant risk. If you either are currently not healthy enough to qualify for underwriting or were to become seriously ill or injured while you are on the short term policy, you would lose your eligibility for any legal guarantees of a policy that you would otherwise have. In other words, you could become uninsurable. Usually a better choice is to apply for a regular major medical policy before losing your other coverage and then, if unsuccessful due to medical underwriting, apply for the State Risk Pool.
