Routine Mammograms
Insurance companies must pay for a routine mammogram on the same basis as other necessary diagnostic tests. However, the payment for a mammogram is subject to deductibles and co-payments. It is paid based on the following schedule.
Age Requirements
Ages 35 - 39 One screening
Ages 40 - 49 One screening every other year
Age 50 & older - One screening every year (every other year with Medicare supplement policies)
If there is a specific medical reason for a mammogram screening, it is covered even if it is not according to schedule.
If the mammogram is offered through a group plan not subject to South Dakota's jurisdiction, payment for the mammogram may be subject to another state's laws and not South Dakota's.
