The South Dakota Board of Technical Professions is a regulatory board charged with licensing and regulating the professional practice of architecture, engineering, land surveying, landscape architecture, and petroleum release services for the purpose of safeguarding public health, safety and welfare in the State of South Dakota. A person must be licensed by the Board before being permitted to offer and provide these professional services on projects located within the State of South Dakota.
Primary responsibilities of the Board include reviewing applications; administering examinations; enrolling interns; licensing qualified professionals; communicating with licensees and the public regarding the laws, rules and professional standards of practice of these professions; investigating complaints and conducting disciplinary proceedings where appropriate; restricting or revoking licenses when generally accepted standards of practice or conduct are not met; and encouraging continuing professional development for those who practice the professions regulated by the Board in order to attain and maintain competence in their profession.
The Board is self supporting and generates its revenues from fees charged to applicants and licensees. The Board meetings are open to the public, with meeting agendas and minutes posted on this website after they have been prepared and approved.
Please note: The Board does not keep records of a licensee's earned professional development hours (PDH) or carryover. It is the responsibility of licensees to keep records of continuing education including an earned PDH log and PDH completion certificates issued by continuing education providers.
